Hello, I am the one with many names, but you can still call me Death if you like, it is my most common one after all. I also have many appearances, but as you can see, I am not a scary gloomy male, like people think, a “skeletal” figure wearing a black cloak or a robe with a long-nosed face, as you all depict to mock me. I am the one that you should fear, but that is not true. I am not scary, nor gloomy, not even cruel as it is not my intent, though I understand the perspective. I kindly ask you, allow me to introduce myself… The real me.
My name is Catrina, though it wasn’t official until I was in 1600s in this place, which you may know as Mexico. My origin is very complicated to explain, but if I am not mistaken, I was born during some time in the month of October, I don’t know where specifically. However, there was one October, where I always found myself in this other certain place, I believe you call it, Europe, and it is claimed that I got stronger and more powerful than ever. Yes, I am not going to deny that. Over the centuries I’ve been everywhere,everytime all at once, which is one of my abilities. I know that I am hated for what you think I am and do. But, as you can see, I am not who you think. Yes, I am a “skeleton”, but also an elegant woman, who is joyful, vibrant, friendly, who loves to sing and dance. I wear a long beautiful yellow and orange dress and a huge hat bigger than my head with so many lively and colorful flowers. I am also lonely, and I have noticed that your loved ones suffered great sadness by some form of misfortune. That’s why I bring them to my world, where they won’t feel sad nor troubled anymore, they can just keep living happily and freely as they desire. I assure you that neither I nor they feel sad or lonely. It is impossible! My world is blissful, a place with lots of singing, dancing, delicious food, joyful music, and full of life and love like they have never left your world at all.
I am so glad that many of you have changed your perspective of me over the years and embraced me enough to celebrate me. I would like to finally return the favor. To celebrate the final day of my birth month, I will allow Heaven and Earth to be reunited once more for at least two nights. It will be so much fun! There will be candy and you can dress however you like; a scary monster, a beautiful princess or someone you admire. Also, on the second day of November, I will throw a ball, here on Earth, where all your loved ones from Heaven will meet you once again to be with you all through the night. All my love to you as always!
